Downtime

My mood goes
way, way down
sometimes...
I can barely
open my eyes -
let alone pay all
the debts I owe...

I watch the earth
spin round and round
and maintain my energy
still going hither down some more...

I'm marked for criticism
Steady but slow - so slow
I watch kids spin their tops
colorful and totally uncanny
I stand at the edge
of the parade
watching the movement
out of the limelight..

I wear an
oppressive backpack
filled with tons
of iron and steel...

I visualize
the lightness
of a moonscape -
I fix my eyes on it

I turn it all over
unable to handle it-
trying to dissipate it
like a bubble dancing away

Bewildering are these moods
waiting and waiting
for the right time and place -
while life passes me by

So, tell us! What mechanistic do you use to grab your reader and keep them reading your story? A cliff hanger, perhaps? Or maybe a twisted romance? Or maybe even TRAGEDY?

How did we get here; am I certain this is even happening?
It wasn’t so long ago, I was so alone; I wasn’t sure of anything.
I want to say I found you, but I think you found me; no, I think it was something else.
Like a second nature, or something greater, larger than life itself.

When I’m alone I waste away;
I tend to roam inside my mind and try to change
the way I feel.

And I don’t need you to say you understand;
The only thing I need is you more than old substances,
because you’re real.

I’m the one to question why I love someone, but this time it is rearranged.
Why do you love me? I thought I was broken, never to be replaced.
My past is hidden, but I don’t miss it in any way.
Ask me no question, I need you to listen to what I have to say:

hey, my name's Jess!
Currently I'm a college student studying at Lawrence University. I'm a freshman and not sure about my intended major - I've juggling with music education, clarinet performance, English, and Bachelor of music. Getting through my 2nd term I'm actually leaning away from teaching and I've been noticing more and more how much I love english and writing. I though a writing-oriented forum would be a good way to get more into the swing of writing more frequently. I'm a part of the creative writing club that's at my campus but I want to make sure I knuckle down and do more on my own with it. For the most part of I've been thinking about it, and attending meetings, so I want to start turning the thinking into actualing doing.

I journal - a lot. I love reflecting on things in my life that have happened and different situations/experiances I observe. Experiances are something I prize and search for the most. (That being said, I'll pop in/out of any online type of things I ever decide to do because real life always comes first yadda yadda yadda) I think I started journaling and writing more after my grandmother had passed away from cancer. It affected the way I thought and make writing a huge outlet to sort out different things I was going through.

I look forward to checking this place out!
So far I like this place the best out of the other forums I've briefly encountered on the web. I'm probably going to check out a few and then frequent whichever one fits me best, so I look forward to meeting whoever and lurking here for now (when I have the time haha) (:

oh, and just because I'm super proud of it. I had to share that I did the clarinet in the avatar on a scratchboard - that's a picture taken of it and then shrunk down to fit up there in that lil corner. One of the drawing/artsy type of things that I thought really turned out well (:
